Description: Artist: FERNAND TOUSSAINT (1873-1955) Size: 30 7/8 x 40 in./78.4 x 101.5 cm O. De Rycker, Bruxelles Toussaint's first poster, this image advertises the self-titled magazine published by the artists' group Le Sillon. The name derives from the phrase "cruser son sillon" -- to plow one's own furrow, or, more colloquially, to make one's own way in the world. Toussaint takes this ideal somewhat literally, showing a dreamy blond at the annual grain harvest, gathering both the fruits of the field and the fruits of this group's work. As ethereal and magical as it is graphically complex, this design is a graphic tour-de-force.)
