Bonnard's best-known and most enigmatic poster advertises the monthly La Revue Blanche, published by the Natansons, who befriended and encouraged him. The significance of this image eludes us today and seems not to have been all that clear when published. Maindron admitted that he could not understand it, but found that "nonetheless it's quite curious." [Ref: PAI -XLI, 117]
The vague form behind the woman's shoulder is apparently the figure of a man wearing a top hat and a cape. He is bending forward to read a posted advertisement for La Revue Blanche (The White Review).
