Original Grumman “Avenger” vintage airplane poster. Printed in 1943 by the manufacturer Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation on ivory toned paper.
Very fine condition without pinholes or tears. No damage to the poster but slight foxing on the the right edge. The image features the Avenger aircraft dropping a torpedo into the ocean while a group of war ships sit on the horizon. Ready to frame.
The Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, later Grumman Aerospace Corporation, was a 20th century American producer of military and civilian aircraft. During World War II, Grumman became known for its "Cats" (Navy fighter aircraft): the F4F Wildcat and F6F Hellcat, the Grumman F7F Tigercat and Grumman F8F Bearcat,[4] and also for its torpedo bomber, the Grumman TBF Avenger.[5] Grumman ranked 22nd among United States corporations in the value of wartime production contracts
The artist is Wayne Lambert Davis (1904-1988). He was the art director for Grumman Aircraft and did several paintings of their planes.
