Original SANTA FE RAILROAD - THE CHIEF WAY vintage railway poster. Professional archival acid-free linen backed in excellent condition; ready to frame. Year: 1947. Size: 18" x 24".
Several of the trains were named "Chief" which includes the San Francisco Chief, Texan Chief, Kansas City Chief and Super Chief. The Santa Fe Railroad became one of the largest United Sates railway companies by getting land grants from the U. S. Government. The railway then sold off the land in parcels to farmers.
The image of the 'Chief' was introduced in the 1930's in a rare poster for the San Francisco Chief Santa Fe New Train to Chicago and Texas. The American Indian was present in many of the Santa Fe Railway posters not only as this 'Chief' image; but also as braves as seen in other antique posters.
The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) was chartered on February 11, 1859, to join Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, with Santa Fe, New Mexico. In its early years, the railroad opened Kansas to settlement. Much of its revenue came from wheat grown there and from cattle driven north from Texas to Wichita and Dodge City by September 1872.
