Large oversize Fischer poster for World War 1. I summon you to Comradeship in the Red Cross" W. Wilson. Paret 82, Rawls 126.
Fisher's Red Cross recruitment poster transforms one of the relief organization's nurses into a symbol resembling an American 'Marianne,' a flawless beauty brimming with health. Of course, no actual signs of hard work are present, only the all-white ensemble hints at the possibility of a nurse's uniform. The blanched clothing also emphasizes the inherent purity of women and alludes to the outerwear of mythical goddesses, while the flag clutched against the woman's breast serves as a patriotic reminder.
