Louis James Nolan Biography

Louis James Nolan Jr. Commercial Artist

Louis James Nolan Jr., 82, a retired commercial artist who designed Navy
recruiting posters and U.S. postage stamp.

He was one of the founders of Nolan, Duffy & White, a commercial art firm
that later became Nolan & Associates. The Navy was the company's primary
client.

As a freelance artist, Mr. Nolan's postage stamp drawings included a
Christmas motif and a stamp commemorating the Pledge of Allegiance. He also
designed a patch for NASA that was worn by Christa McAuliffe, the
schoolteacher who died in the 1984 Challenger disaster.
