Frank Frazetta Biography
FRAZETTA, Frank (1928)
Comments: Talented both in drawing and athletics, he sold his comic book drawings since high school, and received several offers to play professional baseball. He continued as an artist, however, publishing his own comic strip, Johnny Comet. He was Al Capp's assistant on Li'l Abner for several years, and did drawings for Mad and Playboy magazines, and movie posters. He achieved the most success with his work after he did a series of paperback covers for a new edition of the Tarzan stories. This led to many sword and sorcery" titles, and a whole school of fantasy artists following his lead. He went on to sell signed reproductions, posters and calendars of his work.
