Alfred Pellon Biography

Almost forgotten, Alfred Pellon (1874-1947) is a prolific artist from Metz: painter, draftsman, engraver, writer or even musician, he is one of the most versatile artistic figures in Metz. His training led him to study graphic arts in France and Germany, notably at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he imbibed the Jugendstil spirit - the German equivalent of Art Nouveau. He was a member of different artistic groups, which exhibited on both sides of the border. Admiring the poetry of Paul Verlaine as well as the music of Richard Wagner, his dual Franco-German culture earned him a sulphurous and nonconformist reputation, and made him an atypical personality.
