Original JOB Papier A Cigarettes . Les Maitres de l'Affiche PL. 1. Presented in a 20" x 16" acid free museum mat. Artist: Jules Cheret.

This is one of Cheret's best known creations for JOB cigarette papers. It has been noted that this femme fatale of the belle epoque era shares a resemblance to the chanteuse Yvette Guilbert. "The defiant gesture of an emancipated woman daring to flout conventional manners is caught with perfection; the fact that it happened over a century ago adds to its piquancy. One of Cheret's best and most famous designs." (Rennert, PAI-XXXI, 392)

Antique posters are 'pictures of persuasion,' as we might call them, offer a wealth of art, history, design, and popular culture for us to understand. The poster is a familiar part of our world, and we intuitively understand its role as propaganda, promotion, announcement, or advertisement."
