Original “A Thrift Stamp a Day will help to Pay the way” vintage WW1 poster. 4 Every Day. Every 6 Hours, a Ship is Launched to Carry our Boys “Over There” A Thrift Stamp a day will help to pay the way.
The massive hull of another Liberty Ship separates jubilant shipyard workers crowded around its bow railing from onlookers celebrating below. The steel girders surround the ship as it is prepared to be launched and on its way to Europe.
Every 6 hours, a ship is launched to carry our boys "Over There."
A Thrift Stamp a day will help to pay the way. Incredibly, in a time of war, any ship could be built quickly, let alone 4 of them in one day.
The ships were made assembly-line style from prefabricated sections. In 1943 three Liberty ships were completed daily. They were usually named after famous Americans, starting with the signatories of the Declaration of Independence.
This shows the buying power of Thrift Stamps during World War 1.
