Original San Diego’s Great Annual Fiesta – Original 1957 Vintage Poster by Clark Allen. Archival linen-backed in Grade A- condition, ready to frame. Mid-Century-Modern.
This vibrant, original 1957 poster for “San Diego’s Great Annual Fiesta” captures mid-century California festival culture at its finest. Designed by artist Clark Allen, the artwork radiates color, movement, and celebration, making it a striking focal point for any wall. Currently this is also the only known documented copy of this poster available.
The composition features a glamorous woman in traditional Spanish/fiesta-inspired attire, surrounded by festive motifs that evoke music, dance, and the spirit of Old California celebrations.
The woman shown in this poster is presumed to be actress Margarita Cordova, the artist’s wife. Allen and Cordova lived and studied in Granada, Spain, for more than a year, where they learned about the culture of the Spanish Romani and flamenco music.
Authentic vintage piece: Guaranteed original period printing (not a reproduction), professionally conserved and linen-backed. This poster did have a torn corner bottom right reattached during the linen-lining process. Some restoration was also accomplished in this area at the same time.
Archival conservation: Mounted on acid-free linen with reversible conservation adhesives to stabilize paper and preserve color. Collector-grade presentation: Bright, well-preserved image. The bottom-right corner had a bend that was laid down as well. Excellent lithographic colors.
