Original map for The Radium Trail, printed in 1934 for Fortune Magazine. Archival linen backed original 1934 printing, fine condition, ready to frame. Black and white. An Eskimo symbol adorns the very top center of the boarder and an artic animal is center stage on the center bottom border.
This was a freelance job and I did not join Fortune until January 6 1936 when I was brought into the Art Department after the most untimely death of Johnny Allen.
It is amazing how long it would take back in the 1930’s to travel to distance locations. The Radium Trail from Edmonton Canada to Echo Bay was 1060 miles and took 8 hours in an airplane. Travel of the Radium Trail by plane and ferry was 1695 miles and could be accomplished in 672 hours (28 days traveling 24 hours a day!)
Harrison was known for his thinking out of the box when creating map designs that were easier for the public to understand. This would be a great addition to any map collector’s collection.
