The Last of the Mohicans (by James Fenimore Cooper, artwork by Ken Riley. Printed 1963. Horizontal format size: 38" x 25.5:. Archival linen backed in excellent condition; ready to frame. Rare original poster. (This rare image is part of the Georgraphy & Map Division of the Library of Congress.
Ken Riley is a direct link between the great Western artists of the late nineteenth century and the Western artists of the contemporary scene. He has been a member of the Cowboy Artists of America since 1982 and has worked and painted alongside some of the twentieth century’s finest interpreters of the American West; including Robert Lougheed, John Clymer, and Donald Teague.
"He [Natty Bumppo or Hawkeye] wore a hunting shirt of forest green, fringed with faded yellow, and a summer cap of skins which had been shorn of their fur. He also bore a knife in a girdle of wampum. . . . His moccasins were ornamented after the gay fashion of the natives, while the only part of his underdress which appeared below the hunting frock was a pair of buckskin leggings that laced at the sides. . . . A pouch and horn completed his personal accouterments, though a rifle of great length leaned against a neighboring sapling. . . . His countenance . . . was charged with an expression of sturdy honesty.
