The artist created the famous Monterrey Jazz serigraphs for 50 years. Note that the 50th anniversary of the Monterey Jazz Festival was 2007. Trumpeter Joe Gordon is portrayed on the first 1963 image the artist created.

Some of the musicians at the Sunday, September 22, 1963 Monterrey Jazz Festival were: artet: Paul Desmond, alto saxophone; Dave Brubeck, piano; Eugene Wright, bass; Joe Morello, drums.
Newman's entire collection of Monterey posters is among the art displayed in the Smithsonian Institution. Naturally the serigraphs are also featured in the book: The Art of Jazz: Monterey Jazz Festival / 50 Years.
