Based on the play Rome Vaincue (1876) by Alexandre Parodi, in which Sarah Bernhardt starred, Roma is about Fausta, a Vestal Virgin sentenced to be walled up alive for a forbidden love affair. The poster shows Fausta about to be stabbed in an act of mercy.
