Marino Marini Biography

He was born on February 17, 1901 in Pistoia, a town in the Tuscan region of Italy. He was a painter, sculpture and graphic artist who was influenced by ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan art, as well as Gothic and Renaissance art. At the age of 16 he enrolled in art school in Florence. For eleven years, 1929-1940, he was a professor of sculpture at Villa Reale art school in Monza near Milan. During World War II he lived in Ticino, the Italian region of Switzerland. He later moved back to Milan whe he assumed a new position as professor of sculpture at the Accademia di Brera. He died in 1980.
