Jean-Louis Forain Biography

Forain created this poster to announce the second bicycle show, an exhibition of the cycles and their parts. The exhibition was held in October 1894, at the Palace of Industry in Paris. It is undoubtedly one of Forain's best posters, an artist more well known for his work in humor magazines like "Le Rire."

Jean-Louis Forain, a French painter and illustrator, born in 1852, and joined the French Army and fought as a soldier in World War 1 at the age of 62!  He was a leading caricaturist in Paris and owes much to Daumier. He published an edition of prints of his first hand drawings of the devastation of WW1. Regularly contributed to Le Figaro. Close friends with Edgar Degas.
