Erich Strenger Biography

As Porsche won more and more races Ferry Porsche hired illustrator Eric Strenger to design the posters and with the help of Julius Weitmann, a known racing photographer, and Richard von Frankenberg, a race driver and journalist, the trio started to produce victory posters on a regular basis.

No one has helped to shape the image of Porsche as much as Erich Strenger — over four decades, the graphic designer created adverts, brochures, and racing posters for the storied marque. He also founded Porsche’s in-house magazine, Christophorus, and designed the company’s hallmark logo typography…

The starting signal for the long-term collaboration began in 1951 when Strenger and historian Richard von Frankenberg, who had just begun to form Porsche’s communication department, discovered their common enthusiasm for the brand.

In 1987 Strenger retired after working most of his time exclusively for Porsche.   He moved to Mallorca in 1988.
