Gottlob, who was born and died in Paris, led a double life artistically, as did so many other poster artists. He painted street scenes of Paris and Brittany and, starting in 1891, exhibited many times at teh Salon de Paris. Equally, he did humorous drawings for magazines like Le Rire, L'Assiette au Beurre and Gil Blas.
