Boutet de Monvel
French painter and illustrator. His fame rests chiefly on his decorative illustrations for children's books and his charming watercolors, e.g., Chansons et rondes pour les enfants, or Chansons de France.
Boutet de Monvel was a painter and watercolorist from Orleans who created only a few posters. His experience in illustrated children's literature and his modern style influenced by Japanese aesthetics combine to create a wonderful design for the famous Dr. Pierre toothpaste. ''Dr. Pierre's products enjoyed great commercial success and were made household names, aided by multiple, hard hitting advertising campaigns, both in France and abroad'' (Health p.179)
