As early as 1908 Glenn H. Curtiss tried unsuccessfully to fly from the surface of Lake Keuka at Hammondsport. Later, preparing for the Albany-New York flight, he developed a flotation gear enabling him a make the first successful landing on water, but wit this arrangement no take-off was possible. |
