Renowned for swimming, seaside resorts, casinos, boating, and cafe's in its hay-day Royan was noted as the most luxurious seaside resort in all of France. At the height of this town's fame, in the late 1800s to early 1900s, Royan was known even beyond France as having the largest casino, as well as the most beautiful beaches. This travel poster produced by the French National Rail Road features two magnificent picturesque images. The top image is of Royan in winter, which offers the traveler spectacular sunsets as a romantic getaway. Curving down and around winter becomes summer, where it is easy to see that that is the most popular season. The beaches look packed with families and the beautiful scenery of a park appears to be the best way to enjoy the ocean without getting overheated. Printed by Champenois; the legendary printers who Alphonse Mucha used to print his extraordinary art nouveau posters, there for this the most beautiful high quality lithograph.
