U. S. Marines recruitment poster for Portland Maine. The recruitment office use to be at the address listed, "18 Monument Square, Portland, Me". Which is perfect setting for a solider recruitment, for the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument, Our Lady of Victories, is displayed in the historic town square.
The image used is from Riesenberg’s “U. S. Marines First to Hoist Old Glory on Foreign Soil” poster which he painted in 1913. This is an advertisement with his image being used as its campaign. The poster may have actually been printed in 1917 a few years after the date of the original artwork. |
