Original. Les Maitres de l'Affiche PL. 125. Presented in a 20" x 16" acid free museum mat.
Cadet Roussel was a comic and mime known for his trademark props, a red umbrella and a bicorn hat. Even when he was too old to ride, his costume didn't change. The poster shows him ready to entertain us with his wild antics. Printed by Chaix; Jules Cheret is unquestionably the father of the poster. An artist and technician, Cheret brought color lithography to the highest levels of perfection by demonstrating how all the hues of the rainbow could be achieved with three or four colors. |
