Mont Saint-Michel was previously connected to the mainland via a tidal causeway. The Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Reaching upward toward heavenly skies is Mount Saint Michel. The island has been transformed mainly in the last three hundred years to become a French national architectural treasure. In 708 the archangel Michael appeared to St. Aubert, bishop of Avranches, and continually ordered the bishop to create a church upon the rocky island. “Aubert repeatedly ignored the angel's instruction, until Michael burned a hole in the bishop's skull with his finger.” Today the island is reminiscent of a fairytale; ancient cobblestone streets twist and turn up the sides of the island. On either side of you as you walk upward to a Romanesque church is a charming stone village. This night image of Mont St Michel by Perronnet captures the beauty and magnificence that radiates from this island. A cloud strewn sky aglow with the clear night sky filled with many stars and the moon. Their light reflects upon the shimmering sea waters below making the small waves sparkle. Extending both skyward and seaward, by reflection is Mont St Michel. With it graceful stone walls moving seamlessly in and out of rocky cliffs showered with foliage. And the spiral tower affixed a top the church appears to be tearing open the clouds letting the light fall upon the Mont St Michel. Created to further travel of what was the French National Railway Company.
